Fatih Erbakan closes the door on the People's Alliance: Our decision is final
New Welfare Party (YRP) Chairman Fatih Erbakan made evaluations regarding the current agenda during a television program he attended.
Responding to questions regarding potential contacts with the Felicity Party (Saadet Partisi) and the New Path group, Erbakan stated that a significant synergy could be created if parties appealing to similar voter bases were to come together.
Arguing that a strong alternative could emerge if parties with Milli Görüş roots and similar voter bases united, Erbakan said, "Such a union could lead to the opening of a third way in Turkish politics. In this framework, we have not completely closed the door on alliance possibilities for parliamentary elections."
WHAT IS THE YRP'S VOTE SHARE?
Reminding that they received 7 percent of the vote with 520 thousand members in the last local elections, Erbakan said, "Today, our membership number has reached 660 thousand. Considering that we received approximately 6 times our membership number in past elections, the current picture points to a vote potential of nearly 4 million for us."
Stating that this ratio corresponds to 8 percent when looking at the number of voters across Turkey, Erbakan said, "We believe that we can receive a vote in the 8 to 10 percent band today. Our goal is to reach the 15-20 percent band by increasing our membership to 1 million. These figures are not far-fetched; they are based entirely on mathematical data."
'IF SAADET PROVIDES SUPPORT...'
Touching upon the statements made by Felicity Party Chairman Mahmut Arıkan regarding a presidential candidate, Erbakan stated that there is no official contact or agreement on this matter.
Regarding claims that a bloc would be formed under the leadership of former President Abdullah Gül, Erbakan said, "We have not had direct contact with Abdullah Gül for a long time."
'OUR DECISION IS FINAL'
Stating that they have closed the doors to the People's Alliance, Erbakan said the following:
"Our decision on this matter is final. Our nation wants this as well. We think there is no point in trying what we have already tried once, and being disappointed once again."
