Fatih Mehmet Maçoğlu, who won the Ovacık district of Tunceli in the 2014 local elections and was elected Mayor of Tunceli in 2019, was nominated as the Kadıköy mayoral candidate for the March 31, 2024 local elections by the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) and the Federation of Socialist Assemblies.

Journalist Fatih Portakal, who reacted to Maçoğlu's candidacy, used the term 'concon' for the citizens of Kadıköy.

"THESE ARE NOT EXPRESSIONS WE FIND APPROPRIATE"

Maçoğlu responded to Fatih Portakal in a statement to soL Haber. Maçoğlu said, "No one should insult the people of Kadıköy by labeling them with their own epithets; these are not expressions we find appropriate."

Maçoğlu added, "In the coming days, we will hold a public meeting that the institutions supporting our candidacy will also attend, but we have already started meeting with the people of Kadıköy. We are talking about the needs of Kadıköy and the issues the public is experiencing."

WHAT HAD HE SAID?

Journalist Fatih Portakal, who presents the news on Sözcü TV, criticized Maçoğlu's candidacy, stating, "What are you going to do in Kadıköy, go out on the street and say 'friends, we are making a revolution'? 'Concons' live there already, are you going to plant tomatoes in the garden? What are you going to do?"
