Female engineers share their success stories at Akkuyu: 'There is no gender discrimination'

The event held at the Akkuyu NPP was moderated by Vasiliy Korelskiy, Press Secretary and Communications Director of Akkuyu Nuclear JSC. At the meeting, female engineers working at Akkuyu recounted their experiences and expertise. The engineers, who spoke about their success stories, also answered questions from journalists.

As part of the event, a tour of the Akkuyu NPP construction site was also organized.

In this context, journalists and engineers visited the "observation deck" located 200 meters above the construction site, which allows visitors to see the site extensively, as well as the front of the first power unit, the pump station of this unit, and the training center.

Officials provided information to the participants about the work being carried out there.

Akkuyu Nuclear JSC General Manager Sergey Butckikh said that 4,000 women are involved in the Akkuyu NPP project.

Expressing that he is proud of all female employees, Butckikh said, "We are happy to have female employees; they are highly qualified personnel. The share of women in Rosatom enterprises is 33 percent. According to data from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), this rate is higher than the world average. The rate of female employees in the nuclear energy sector worldwide is around 25 percent."

Butckikh stated that 1,700 of the female employees are Turkish citizens, while 2,300 are citizens of Russia and other countries.

Emphasizing that there is no gender discrimination at Rosatom and Akkuyu Nuclear, Butckikh noted the following:

"Women work in different positions, including management roles. When we hire new employees, we treat everyone the same during the adaptation, preparation, and training processes. Therefore, women can hold different positions just like men. There is no discrimination in terms of both payment and working conditions."

At the end of the program, gifts were given and flowers were presented to the female journalists and staff.
