Debates continue over who will be the new leader of FETÖ: 2 names stand out
Following the death of Fetullah Gülen, the ringleader of the Fetullahist Terror Organization (FETÖ), a leadership struggle and power battle have emerged within the organization. Cevdet Türkyolu, nicknamed "Long Cevdet," and Mustafa Özcan are among the names being discussed as the organization's new leader.
Following the death of Fetullah Gülen, the ringleader of the Fetullahist Terror Organization (FETÖ), the question of who will lead the organization has come to the fore.
After the death of Gülen, who had lived in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania since 1999 and was the mastermind of the July 15 coup attempt, internal disputes within the organization are expected to intensify.
It was known that Gülen's health had been poor for a long time, that he was not of sound mind, and that he had been taken away from the compound where he lived. While divisions within the organization have been on the agenda for a long time, it has emerged that major conflicts are taking place over who will take charge and who will manage the organization's money following Gülen's death.
CEVDET TÜRKYOLU, NICKNAMED 'LONG CEVDET'
One of the names that has come to the fore within the organization after Gülen's death is Cevdet Türkyolu, nicknamed "Long Cevdet." Türkyolu is known as Gülen's "black box" and increased his influence within the organization by marrying Mebruke, the daughter of Gülen's brother Seyfullah Gülen. It was revealed that Türkyolu had given Gülen medication to make him appear healthy so that financial donations to the organization would continue, and that he had released old videos as if they were new to prevent the organization from falling apart.
Cevdet Türkyolu's name is also associated with taking Gülen from the farm in Pennsylvania and moving him to his son-in-law's house. The fact that Türkyolu and his family own many luxury properties strengthens allegations that he embezzled the organization's money.
MUSTAFA ÖZCAN: THE ORGANIZATION'S 'TURKEY IMAM'
Another name mentioned for leadership is Mustafa Özcan. Özcan, whom Gülen appointed as the so-called "Turkey Imam," is also known as the president of the U.S.-based company "The Light Inc." Özcan had established a system that mandated 15 percent of the revenue from FETÖ structures worldwide be sent to him. However, how much of this money he spent for the organization and how much he used for his own benefit has been frequently debated within the organization.
THE EUROPEAN WING: ABDULLAH AYMAZ
Abdullah Aymaz, who manages FETÖ's European structure, is also making a name for himself in the leadership race. Aymaz's opposition to Türkyolu, who controls the organization's financial assets, and his threats to "break away from the organization as the European wing" if necessary, have been reflected in the public sphere. While it is known that Aymaz is making efforts to break the influence of Türkyolu and Özcan, there are claims that fierce infighting, which could even lead to assassinations, may occur within the organization.
MONEY AND POWER STRUGGLE WITHIN THE ORGANIZATION
After Gülen's death, the problem of who will manage the money within the organization has grown. While Türkyolu faces opposition from the elders within the organization, he uses the money to control groups close to him. For this reason, heavy criticism is directed at Türkyolu over financial matters.
In assessments regarding the future of the organization, it is thought that two separate power centers will form: Europe under the control of Aymaz and the U.S. under the control of Türkyolu, with activities in Africa remaining under European influence and activities in Asia being directed by the U.S.
THE LATEST STATUS REGARDING HIS FUNERAL
According to information obtained from security sources, where Gülen will be buried and who will attend the funeral have also become a subject of debate within the organization. It is planned for the funeral to be buried in a wooded area on the land of Türkyolu's son-in-law's house and for a limited number of people to attend.
