Figures close to Akın Gürlek appointed to critical posts: Istanbul decree from the HSK

The HSK appointed Fatih Dönmez, the Istanbul Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor responsible for Smuggling and Economic Crimes, as the Chief Public Prosecutor of the Anatolian side, while appointing the Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor Zafer Koç to the position of Supreme Court Prosecutor, which is considered a demotion.

With the decree, Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor Hüseyin Gümüş was also appointed as a Supreme Court Prosecutor like Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor Koç, while Beykoz Chief Public Prosecutor Barış Duman, known as a relative of former Communications Director Fahrettin Altun, became the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor in place of Gümüş.

Fatih Dönmez, who was brought to the Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, was the figure who managed operations against CHP-run municipalities such as Beşiktaş, Şişli, and Gaziosmanpaşa, most notably the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) file in which Ekrem İmamoğlu was prosecuted.

In political circles, it is claimed that Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek had an influence on the changes in Istanbul, and that the changes were made due to potential investigations regarding CHP-run municipalities within the jurisdiction of the Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

DEMOTIONS FOR CHIEF PROSECUTORS

The HSK's critical decree, which had been rumored in political circles for some time, has been finalized. The Council made critical changes in 3 important chief prosecutor's offices in Istanbul.

Accordingly, Istanbul Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor Fatih Dönmez was brought to the Istanbul Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor Zafer Koç was appointed to the Supreme Court as a regular prosecutor. While Beykoz Chief Public Prosecutor Barış Duman, known as a relative of former Presidential Communications Director Fahrettin Altun, was brought to the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, and Anatolian Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor Kadir Yılmaz was brought to the Bakırköy Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor Hüseyin Gümüş was made a regular prosecutor at the Supreme Court. Gaziosmanpaşa Chief Public Prosecutor Harun Bulut was appointed to the Beykoz Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

CLAIMS OF PREPARATIONS FOR NEW OPERATIONS AGAINST CHP MUNICIPALITIES

It is stated that Akın Gürlek, who has been on the agenda with operations against Ekrem İmamoğlu, CHP-run municipalities, and especially opposition figures since his appointment as Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor in October 2024, had an influence on the Council's changes within Istanbul.

It is rumored that Gürlek wanted to work in harmony with other chief prosecutor's offices in Istanbul, especially the Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, and therefore specifically requested the appointment of Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor Fatih Dönmez, who worked under him and was the head of the operations against CHP-run municipalities, to the Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

While it is also stated that Gürlek similarly wanted Beykoz Chief Public Prosecutor Barış Duman to be appointed to Bakırköy, claims have surfaced in political circles that new operations could be carried out against some CHP-run municipalities, especially on the Anatolian side of Istanbul, following these appointments.

On the other hand, with the decree, Istanbul Anatolian Public Prosecutor İsmet Saçlı was appointed as Kırklareli Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor, Bakırköy Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor Bülent Dinçel as Istanbul Anatolian Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor, Antalya Regional Court of Justice (BAM) Prosecutor Erol Çelik as Antalya BAM Chief Public Prosecutor, and Gaziosmanpaşa Public Prosecutor Harun Bulut as Beykoz Chief Public Prosecutor.
