Following the ship disaster off the coast of Kyrenia that claimed 8 lives, it was noted that Filo Denizcilik closed its Instagram account. On the company's official website, it was observed that voyages for the coming days, including tickets priced at 3,125 TL for the day after the disaster, are still on sale.
A Turkish catamaran-type passenger ship, which set sail from Kyrenia to the Taşucu Port in Mersin on the afternoon of August 30, 2026, capsized off the coast of Kyrenia shortly after departure. It was stated that there were 267 people on board, including the crew.
According to the information provided as of 16:00, 8 people lost their lives in the disaster, and 241 people were rescued. Search and rescue efforts for the 18 passengers reported missing are ongoing.
Following the accident, a 3-day national mourning period was declared in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel announced that the ship's captain and 7 staff members were taken into custody as part of the investigation launched following the disaster.
On the other hand, Filo Denizcilik, which became the focus of attention after the accident, announced yesterday in a statement on its official Instagram account that a crisis desk had been established.
It was observed today that the company has closed its Instagram account.

The company, which closed its Instagram account, continues its voyages on its official website. It was noted that new tickets are on sale even though only one day has passed since the disaster.
While the Kyrenia-Taşucu voyage for August 31 at 14:00 was offered for sale at 3,125 TL on the company's website, it was seen that new voyage options were also available for September 1, 2, 3, and 4. The dates September 1, 2, 3, 6, and 7 are also listed on the site for return voyages from Taşucu to Kyrenia.
It was noted that despite the company closing its Instagram account immediately after the disaster that occurred yesterday and claimed 8 lives, new ticket sales continue on its official website. The fact that voyages and ticket prices are still actively listed on the site has raised a new question regarding the company's operations.
