Final footage of famous BBC presenter who went missing on Greek island emerges
Famous British doctor Michael Mosley has gone missing in Greece. Footage has emerged showing him walking with an umbrella on the day he disappeared.
Surveillance footage has emerged of British doctor and columnist Dr. Michael Mosley walking with an umbrella on the day he disappeared, two days after he went missing while on vacation in Greece.
The 67-year-old Mosley was last seen on Wednesday. His wife, Dr. Clare Bailey, notified authorities in the evening after Mosley failed to return from a walk he took in the afternoon near St. Nicholas Beach, close to the village of Pedi on the island of Symi. The Symi coast guard, divers, and patrol boats joined the search efforts on Friday.
SEARCH UNDERWAY ON LAND AND AT SEA
CCTV footage showed Mosley reaching the main street of Pedi less than half an hour after he set out for his walk. According to BBC News, authorities had been searching the beach, but they now do not believe that Mosley had an accident while walking between there and Pedi.
Police, the fire department, the coast guard, and volunteers are searching on land and at sea on the small, mountainous island of Symi, using a helicopter, drones, and a search dog. Temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius are complicating the search efforts.
The fact that Mosley did not have his mobile phone with him at the time of his disappearance has further complicated the search efforts. Symi Mayor Lefteris Papakalodoukas said, "He likely fell into the sea and was swept away, or something else happened. It is impossible for him to be in the area where the searches are being conducted. It is a small area and it has been completely searched."
A 16-KILOMETER ISLAND
Police are also investigating reports that Mosley spoke with locals in the middle of his walk. Mayor Papakalodoukas stated that witnesses saw Mosley in Pedi after his walk.
Symi is a sparsely populated island about 10 miles (approximately 16 kilometers) long with 2,500 residents. Its deserted beaches, some of which are only accessible by boat, were full of tourists sunbathing on Friday.
Search efforts were suspended on Friday evening and will resume on Saturday.
