Fine issued to individual for illegal snail hunting
A fine of 66 thousand 114 liras was issued to an individual found to be hunting snails illegally in Samsun.
Teams from the Provincial Police Department's Sea Port Branch determined that a boat was hunting snails during a prohibited period off the coast of the Canik district without turning on its navigation lights.
The teams imposed a fine of 66 thousand 114 liras under the Fisheries Law on the boat owner, who fled without complying with light and sound warnings and whose license plate was determined to be covered through video recording.
The 3 sacks of sea snails seized on the boat were dumped back into the sea.
The teams notified the Samsun Port Authority regarding the boat owner's failure to comply with the "stop" warning and for navigating without turning on navigation lights, and informed the Coast Guard Black Sea Regional Command for polluting the sea by abandoning the dredge used for hunting, in order for the necessary penal procedures to be carried out.
