Fire breaks out at Kızılırmak Delta Bird Sanctuary
A fire has broken out in a reed bed area at the Kızılırmak Delta Bird Sanctuary in Samsun, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List. Firefighting crews are responding to the blaze.
A fire of unknown origin has broken out in an approximately 10-decare reed bed area in the Doğanca neighborhood of Bafra district, located within the Kızılırmak Delta Bird Sanctuary, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List in Samsun.
Upon reports from those who saw the smoke, the Samsun 11th Regional Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks, the Bafra Forestry Management Chief Office, and the Metropolitan Municipality fire department teams were dispatched to the area.
Efforts to extinguish the fire are ongoing.
