Fire breaks out in Küçükçekmece, those trapped in the building rescued

A fire that broke out for an unknown reason in a 2-story shanty house in the Kanarya neighborhood of Küçükçekmece spread to the adjacent building. While those living in the building were rescued through the intervention of fire crews, an investigation into the incident has been launched.

The fire started in a 2-story shanty house on 1. Çalıkuşu Street in the Kanarya neighborhood of Küçükçekmece. The fire, which started for an as-yet-unknown reason, spread to the building located next door. While there was no one in the shanty house where the fire started, fire, police, and medical teams were dispatched to the scene upon notification.

Due to electrical work being carried out on the street, fire crews had difficulty reaching the fire. Following the teams' intervention, the fire was brought under control and extinguished. While there were no deaths or injuries in the incident, the shanty house became unusable.

While material damage occurred in the building to which the flames spread, police teams have launched an investigation into the incident.

Speaking about the fire, Ümit Demir described the event with the following statements:

'I had been living here for over 20 years. We moved out of there 1 month ago. My sister called and said, "the house is burning." We still have our belongings on the bottom floor. I went, most people had been taken outside. The fire department arrived very late. It should have arrived in 5-6 minutes from Cennet neighborhood. Because the roof of the house was made of wood, it caught fire quickly. Syrian citizens were staying there. Nothing happened to anyone. It has sentimental value for me. We stayed in that house for more than 20 years.'
