First comment from CHP Chair Özel on YSK decision: 'Even if it is void'

Evaluating the YSK decision, CHP leader Özgür Özel said, "It is the best decision under these conditions. Özgür Çelik will be president again in five weeks. The 39th Grand Congress will be held at the end of November. Even if it is void, it is meaningless." 

The Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance decided to remove Özgür Çelik, who was elected president at the 38th Ordinary CHP Istanbul Provincial Congress, and his administration from office. With this decision, Gürsel Tekin, Zeki Şen, Hasan Babacan, Müjdat Gürbüz, and Erkan Narsap were appointed as trustees to the Istanbul Provincial Presidency. However, Hasan Babacan and Müjdat Gürbüz withdrew from the board of trustees with a decision they made today.

Yesterday, in some districts of Istanbul, CHP district election boards decided that the congresses in Ataşehir, Sarıyer, Bakırköy, Tuzla, and Başakşehir would not be held.

The Supreme Election Council (YSK) accepted the CHP's objections to the decisions of the Istanbul district election boards and overturned the district election boards' decisions that the congresses could not be held on the grounds of 'complete illegality.' However, the objection to the decision regarding the appointment of trustees to the Istanbul Provincial administration by the 45th Civil Court of First Instance was rejected.

Former CHP deputy Mustafa Balbay stated that in light of all these developments, he met with Özel at the party's headquarters and conveyed Özel's comment regarding the YSK decision.

In a post on his social media account, Balbay reported that Özel said, "It is the best decision under these conditions. The YSK said, 'I am the owner of the election processes.' Özgür Çelik will be president again in five weeks. The 39th Grand Congress will be held at the end of November. Even if it is void, it is meaningless."
