First contact on the Trump–Mamdani line
It has been announced that U.S. President Donald Trump and New York Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani will meet in the Oval Office tomorrow.
The date for the meeting between newly elected New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani and U.S. President Donald Trump has been finalized. It was announced that the meeting, which will take place at the White House tomorrow, was requested by Mamdani.
MEETING ANNOUNCED BY TRUMP
In a statement on his social media account, Trump said, "New York Mayor Communist Zohran 'Kwame' Mamdani has requested a meeting. We will meet in the Oval Office on Friday, November 21. Details to follow."
This announcement is notable as it follows the harsh rhetoric Trump used against Mamdani during the election process.
It is known that President Trump used similar expressions for Mamdani in an interview he gave to Fox News. Trump's words, "I think he should treat me well. I am the one who has to approve many of the things that come to him," were interpreted as him asking the new mayor to "be respectful to Washington."
In his post-election statements, Trump also claimed that Democrats had elected a "communist candidate" in New York, argued that the results were "rigged," and said, "Watch what happens in New York, you will see terrible things."
MAMDANI WAS ELECTED WITH A HISTORIC RESULT
34-year-old Uganda-born Zohran Mamdani was elected Mayor of New York after receiving approximately 1 million 39 thousand votes. Thus, Mamdani became the city's youngest and first Muslim mayor in the last century.
According to CBS News data, more than 2 million votes were cast in this election, a figure recorded as the highest voter turnout since 1969.
