First hearing in the Isias Hotel case: Courthouse basement converted into a courtroom

First hearing in the Isias Hotel case: Courthouse basement converted into a courtroom

The first hearing of the Isias Hotel case, in which 72 people lost their lives in Adıyaman, is set to take place. Extensive security measures have been taken both inside and outside the courthouse ahead of the trial.

In the hotel, where 86 people were staying during the February 6 earthquakes—including 39 volleyball players, teachers, and coaches who came from the TRNC for a tournament, and 47 people who were there for an educational trip organized by the Turkish Tourist Guides Association—a total of 72 people, including 1 staff member, lost their lives.

Police have been deployed inside and outside the courthouse for the first hearing of the Isias Hotel case. The investigation conducted by the Adıyaman Chief Public Prosecutor's Office will be heard at the Adıyaman 3rd High Criminal Court. Due to the high number of plaintiffs, a special hall has been arranged for this trial. The conference hall located in the basement of the courthouse has been converted into a courtroom.

In the case prepared by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and accepted by the 3rd High Criminal Court, it is requested that a total of 11 individuals, 5 of whom are under arrest, be sentenced to up to 22 years and 5 months in prison for the crime of "causing the death and injury of more than one person with conscious negligence," in accordance with articles 85/2 and 22/3 of the Turkish Penal Code No. 5237, by moving away from the lower limit.
