First reaction from Arka Sokaklar actor Şevket Çoruh after RTÜK penalty
The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) took action today following a statement made yesterday by AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, issuing a series of fines. A notable comment came from Arka Sokaklar actor Şevket Çoruh, who was among those affected by the penalties.
The penalties imposed by RTÜK on broadcasts and television programs have been announced. In its regular meeting, the council also issued a fine to the series Arka Sokaklar, which airs on Kanal D, due to a "cult" scene.
Concluding that the aired scenes "led to the abuse of religious values in society," the Supreme Council imposed an administrative fine on Kanal D at the upper limit.
Following RTÜK's decision, Şevket Çoruh, who acted in the penalized scene, made a notable comment on his social media account. Çoruh stated, "I consider it an award."

WHAT HAPPENED?
AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan targeted television series in a statement he made yesterday. Calling on RTÜK, Erdoğan said, "Attempts against our sacred values, which are the cement of society, are a national security issue; our relevant institutions, especially RTÜK, must rapidly implement measures."
Today, the penalties imposed by RTÜK on broadcasts and television programs were announced. RTÜK took action immediately following Erdoğan's call.

VIOLENCE PENALTIES FOR 4 MAJOR SERIES
STAR TV's "Sahipsizler", NOW's "Yabani", and SHOW's "Deha" series were sanctioned at the upper limit due to scenes containing violence, particularly against women. A decision was made to suspend the programs.
