First reaction from CHP to 'party congress investigation': 'Who are you, brother?'

A notable development has occurred regarding the 38th Ordinary Congress of the CHP, held at the Ankara Sports Hall on November 4-5, 2023, where Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu handed over the chairmanship to Özgür Özel.

According to a report by KRT, an investigation has been launched into the congress by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

The first reaction from the CHP came from Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır. Evaluating the decision while connecting to Sözcü TV, Başarır said, "Are you putting the leading party, which received millions of votes on March 31, on trial? Is it your place, Mr. Prosecutor?"

Başarır stated the following:

"I am just laughing, but at the same time, I am condemning it. A year and a half has passed since our congress. The CHP Congress is the highest body. It is not anyone's place to file a lawsuit against it. After the legal interventions against our mayors, I said, 'A coup is being carried out against the will of the people through the judiciary in this country.' It is not anyone's place. Who are you, brother? Put the mayors on trial, put the deputies on trial, and now put the party on trial, is that it? This did not even happen during coup periods. Who are you putting on trial? Are you putting the leading party, which received millions of votes on March 31, on trial? Is it your place, Mr. Prosecutor?"
