In an operation targeting the CHP-run Bayrampaşa Municipality, 4 people, including IMM Deputy Secretary General and Head of the Fire Department Remzi Albayrak, were detained.
CHP Group Deputy Chairman Gökhan Günaydın reacted to the operation against Bayrampaşa Municipality in a post on his social media account.
Reminding of the releases from prisons following the entry into force of the 11th Judicial Package, Günaydın stated, "While prisons in Turkey are being emptied, Silivri is being packed like sardines. When there are 1,400 municipalities in the country, if the focus is constantly on the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and its districts, this is not an independent but an instrumentalized judiciary. In the 2024 elections, the people of Istanbul gave the Metropolitan Municipality to the CHP with a margin of 1 million votes, and 2 out of every 3 district municipalities, including 26 of the 39 districts. You cannot take through operations what you cannot win through elections. An independent and impartial judiciary is the guarantee of the country."
Günaydın noted the following:
"Yesterday, Mayor Ekrem's advisor, a Boğaziçi graduate, Tonguç Çoban, and 15 people were arrested. This morning, IMM Deputy Secretary General, Head of the Fire Department, and retired colonel Remzi Albayrak were detained along with four others. Undoubtedly, no one is exempt from judicial oversight, nor can they be. The only condition is that the judiciary works according to events, not individuals, and does not deviate from justice.

We will not allow you to design politics through police corridors and courtrooms. Sovereignty belongs unconditionally to the nation."
