First reaction to the Kobani case verdicts: 'We said they would be held accountable!'
Verdicts have been announced in the trial where former Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) co-chairs Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ were among the defendants. One of the first comments on the matter came from Deputy Minister of Interior Bülent Turan. Turan remarked, "We said they would be held accountable!"
In the trial concerning the October 6-8 events, in which former Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) co-chairs Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ were also tried, Yüksekdağ was sentenced to 30 years and 3 months in prison, while Selahattin Demirtaş was sentenced to 28 years and 6 months.
Deputy Minister of Interior Bülent Turan commented on the sentences given to the politicians, saying, "We said they would be held accountable!"
"EVEN IF IT DOES NOT PLEASE SOME..."
Turan's social media post is as follows:
''We said they would be held accountable! Today's decision showed that; Law and justice cannot be diluted with romantic tweets sent from prison; No one can incite the streets for their political ambitions; No one can exploit public order for the benefit of themselves or an organization they are affiliated with; There will be a price to pay for encouraging an event that causes public outrage, destruction, and loss of life, 'no matter who it is'. Even if it does not please some, justice has been served; there are acquittals and there are sentences. May it be for the best.''
