First response from IMM to taxi drivers' demand for a price hike: 'How did they calculate that?'
Istanbul Taxi Drivers Chamber of Tradesmen President Eyüp Aksu recently stated that they would request a 65 percent increase in taximeter tariff rates. The first statement regarding the matter from the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) came from Deputy Secretary General Buğra Gökce. Gökce said, "There is no such agenda. I also don't know how they calculated 65 percent."
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Deputy Secretary General Buğra Gökce made statements during a live broadcast regarding the 65 percent price hike demand for taximeter rates voiced by Istanbul Taxi Drivers Chamber of Tradesmen President Eyüp Aksu.
Speaking on FOX TV, Gökce stated that the price hike for taxi fares would be made at the end of December or January.
"IT IS NOT A HIKE WE WOULD DEEM APPROPRIATE"
Pointing out that UKOME meets every 6 months regarding taxi fares, Gökce stated the following:
"There is no such agenda. I also don't know how they calculated 65 percent. Our UKOME meetings are held with a price hike agenda every 6 months. It is not correct to mention this figure before the January UKOME meeting. Furthermore, 65 percent is not a hike we would deem appropriate"
"The demand for a hike has no physical basis," said Buğra Gökce, adding, "We determine hike rates based on inflation growth, minimum wage increases, and fuel price increases. There is no such hike on our agenda. There is also no official proposal that has reached us," he expressed.
We cannot deem the 65 percent hike requested by taxi drivers appropriate.#ÇalarSaat #FoxHaber #İlkerKaragöz pic.twitter.com/wFoqzxdJln
