First statement from AKP on Trump's remarks about Erdoğan: 'An attitude that seeks guidance'

America's new president, Donald Trump, answered questions from journalists and made notable remarks regarding both Syria and AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan.

Noting that Turkey is an "important power," Trump stated, "Erdoğan is someone I get along with well. He has a great military power. And this power has not been worn out in wars. He has built a very strong and effective army."

Calling AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan "a very smart man and very strong," Trump indicated that the key to what will happen in Syria will be in Turkey's hands.

STATEMENT FROM THE AKP FRONT

While these words from Donald Trump dominated the Turkish agenda, numerous interpretations were made regarding the message underlying the US President's remarks.

While there was curiosity about how the AKP would interpret these words from Trump, a statement came from Ömer Çelik.

AKP spokesperson Çelik used the following expressions during the live broadcast he attended:

"When you look at Trump's statements, it is a very cautious attitude that tries to foresee what will happen and, to some extent, seeks Turkey's guidance. This is because Turkey has the clearest stance on this issue. This picture emerged because Turkey is the only country that has contact with all of the opposition groups. Now they are carrying both the Syrian and Turkish flags. Why are they not carrying the flag of another country? When you see it in the broadcasts, we see how high the interest and attention regarding Turkey and our President is. Even in the most difficult times of the incident, Turkey did not change its stance. Turkey provided the greatest support and protection to those fleeing the network of massacres."
