First statement from Ankara following US-Iran ceasefire

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey has issued a written statement regarding the two-week temporary ceasefire reached between the United States and Iran.

SUPPORT FOR THE CEASEFIRE DECISION

In the statement released by the Ministry, it was noted that the decision for a temporary ceasefire was welcomed. The statement highlighted the importance of the full implementation of the ceasefire on the ground and expressed the expectation that the parties would remain committed to the agreement reached.

The text included the following: “We welcome the decision for a temporary ceasefire in the regional war. We emphasize that the temporary ceasefire must be fully implemented on the ground and hope that all parties will remain committed to the agreement reached. We will continue to provide all kinds of support for the successful conclusion of the negotiations to be held in Islamabad.”

DIPLOMATIC CONTACTS TO CONTINUE

The statement emphasized that Turkey will continue its diplomatic support for the process. It was noted that efforts to reduce regional tensions and ensure lasting peace will continue, and that diplomatic channels will be kept active.

Officials pointed out that the temporary ceasefire is of critical importance not only for halting the fighting but also for the protection of civilians and the delivery of humanitarian aid to the region.
