First statement from Berkay Gezgin after release: We will get Mayor Ekrem out too

Following the detention of Ekrem İmamoğlu on March 19, a large number of people, mostly university students, were arrested during the protests that ensued. The police's harsh intervention and allegations of mistreatment during the detention process had caused widespread public outcry.

102 people who were arrested during the protests, which began with the detention of CHP's presidential candidate and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and grew following his imprisonment, have been released.

Among those released was Berkay Gezgin, the architect of İmamoğlu’s “Everything will be very beautiful” slogan and a member of the CHP Party Assembly during the extraordinary convention. 

It was announced that 22-year-old Berkay Gezgin, who first voiced the “Everything will be very beautiful” slogan and became a symbol with these words, was among those released. Additionally, the house arrest decisions for 25 people were also lifted.

Following his release, Berkay Gezgin was greeted in front of Marmara Prison with chants of "Everything will be very beautiful."

Gezgin made the following statement to members of the press:

'WE WILL GET MAYOR EKREM OUT TOO'

"Thank you very much for continuing the struggle while we were inside. Do not forget that no one can stand in the way of the national will. We are here right now because you kept up your struggle. Thank you very much. We will get Mayor Ekrem out as soon as possible, too. Everything will be very beautiful."
