First statement from CHP mayor rumored to be joining AKP: 'I have served in this party for years'
Ardahan Mayor Faruk Demir, who was alleged to be among the mayors switching from the CHP to the AKP, has made a statement regarding the matter.
Following the recent resignations of mayors from the CHP, it was alleged that Ardahan Mayor Faruk Demir would also make the same decision.
Demir reacted sharply to the claims that he would also leave the party following the resignation of Göle District Mayor Gökhan Budak from the CHP.
Publishing a statement on his social media accounts regarding the allegations and emphasizing his loyalty to the CHP, Demir stated that these rumors were spread intentionally.
Demir continued his remarks as follows:
"I am a member of the CHP; I have served in this party for years, and I will continue to do so. I hold the identity of a former member of parliament. With the votes of the honorable people of Ardahan, I have been serving as Mayor for the second time, which is 6 and a half years as of now. The Mayor of Göle made a wrong decision by leaving our party. We are loyal soldiers of our party; it is impossible for us to make any decision to leave. I am standing tall, and we will continue to serve our beloved Ardahan from my party, the CHP."
