The decision for house arrest was made for the imprisoned IMM Deputy Secretary General Mahir Polat, who was referred to the Council of Forensic Medicine yesterday.
FIRST STATEMENT FROM HIS LAWYER
Connecting to a live broadcast on Halk TV, Polat's lawyer Erkam Erdem stated, "We have received information from the prison. He will be released once the discharge procedures are completed."
Meanwhile, 28 people who were imprisoned following the Saraçhane protests are being released.
WHAT HAPPENED?
On March 29, Mahir Polat was taken by ambulance from the Marmara Closed Penal Execution Institution in Silivri, where he was being held, to the Mehmet Akif Ersoy Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Training and Research Hospital. Polat, who was kept under observation in the Cardiology Intensive Care Unit, underwent an angiogram.
After his treatment concluded, Polat was discharged on March 31 and sent back to the penal institution.
Yesterday morning, Polat was transferred from prison to the Istanbul Council of Forensic Medicine for an evaluation of his health status, and was taken back to prison after his examination there.
