First statements from Büyükekşi and Montella after EURO 2024 exit

Büyükekşi, in his statement to the press following the match played at the Berlin Olympic Stadium, said, "Our coach had said before the tournament that 'we will go step by step'.

First, we advanced from the group. Then we reached the quarterfinals among the 16 teams. We have been saying this since the first day. We are one of the youngest teams in Europe. We are the youngest team to reach the round of 16. This team shows great development as they play with each other.

We are happy because this team has come this far. They are the champions of our hearts, we are proud of all of them. 'Our Boys' will achieve greater success in the upcoming tournaments. Maybe they will reach the semifinals or the final next time. We expect these things from these children." he said.

Thanking the national footballers for their performance throughout the tournament, Büyükekşi said, "When we started the tournament, we were one of the 5 best teams in Europe. We took the field to be one of the top 4 teams. We played the most beautiful match of this tournament in the first half and took a 1-0 lead.

We came to the quarterfinals with great hopes. Unfortunately, we conceded two unlucky goals in the second half. I would like to thank our technical staff, our players, and our fans first and foremost. Our fans, both in the stadium and in the fan zones, as well as our 85 million citizens in front of their televisions, supported us wholeheartedly." he said.

Expressing that the crescent-star footballers made them feel great pride, Büyükekşi concluded his words by saying, "We entered the locker room with our President. We congratulated them. They played very well, they fought well. All our spectators in the stadium applauded our national team. I applaud them too. Hopefully, we will achieve better successes in the upcoming tournaments." 

MONTELLA: WE ARE SAD BUT PROUD

National Team Head Coach Vincenzo Montella said in his statement after the Netherlands match, "We had a dream. We were very close. We are sad, but do not perceive it as a disappointment. We should be proud. We came this far. It could have been more, but unfortunately, football is like this."

In the EURO 2024 quarterfinals hosted by Germany, the National Team said goodbye to the tournament by losing 2-1 to the Netherlands.
