First tailors, now shoe repairers: They have started working by appointment

Rising costs and economic difficulties in recent times have pushed first tailors and now shoe repairers to work using an appointment system.

With the rise in shoe prices, citizens have found the solution in having their existing shoes repaired. Shoe repairers in Afyonkarahisar have started working with an appointment system due to the high demand.

"THEY ARE HAVING THEIR SHOES REPAIRED FOR THE FAMILY ECONOMY"

In the Dinar district of Afyonkarahisar, shoe repairers, who were once mobile and found on every street corner, have dwindled to just a handful today. Due to the high cost of shoes, interest in the few remaining shoe repairers in the district has increased in recent days. Yavuz Oyan, who has been a cobbler since that year, continues to practice the profession he learned from his father. Emphasizing that they have started working with an appointment system to keep up with the workload, Oyan said, "My father had apprentices, and I am one of them. I learned both the journeyman and master levels from my father; I do this job with love, and you couldn't do it if you didn't love it. But unfortunately, there is no interest in this profession; apprentices cannot be found, we cannot find them. There is a high volume of repairs lately, and the reason is the rise in shoe prices. Citizens are having their shoes repaired to contribute to the family economy. That is why our workload has increased. We give our customers appointments for today or tomorrow," he said.

Oyan also expressed his gratitude for the support provided to them by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, while citizens visiting Oyan's shop also expressed that more support should be given to tradespeople who do shoe repair.
