First trace after 33 days in İliç! Pickup truck found at cyanide gold mine
Following the collapse at the cyanide gold mine in the İliç district of Erzincan, 9 workers remained trapped under the heap leach. A pickup truck was found at the mine yesterday.
It has been 33 days since the disaster at the Çöpler Gold Mine, owned by Anagold Mining, in İliç, Erzincan.
Nine workers are still missing following the accident in the heap leach area.
During the operations carried out to remove the shifted soil, a pickup truck was found in the leach area yesterday morning.
"I REALIZED IT BELONGED TO OUR FRIENDS"
According to the report by Şeyda Öztürk from Cumhuriyet; an inspection of the wrecked pickup truck with license plate 24 BC 616 revealed that it was empty. One of the workers at the gold mine made statements.
The worker, who did not want to be named, said, "When I saw it, I realized the vehicle belonged to our friends. However, the car turned out to be empty. Their locations have not been determined yet. They are suspicious of one or two spots." Expressing that the families are waiting in the area, the worker added, "If only our friends' bodies could be found. People cannot even grieve properly."
Bağımsız Maden-İş Union Organizing Expert Başaran Aksu protested, saying, "Today marks 33 days that our miner brothers have been under the chemical heap."
