First Turkish astronaut Alper Gezeravcı has begun his experimental work! The subject of the first experiment in space has been announced

According to a statement made on the social media account of the Turkish Space Agency (TUA), the first Turkish astronaut Alper Gezeravcı has begun researching plants exposed to salt stress as part of his first experiment at the International Space Station.

The name of the experiment is "Investigation of the Responses of the Extremophyte Schrenkiella Parvula to Salt Stress in a Space Environment." This experiment is being led by Ege University faculty members Prof. Dr. İsmail Türkan, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rengin Özgür Uzilday, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Barış Uzilday.

Within the scope of the experiment, "A. thaliana" and "schrenkiella parvula" plants grown in space and on Earth will be exposed to salt stress, and transcriptome analysis will be performed using next-generation sequencing (RNA-seq). Additionally, the physiological and molecular responses of glycophytic and halophytic plants to salt stress in microgravity will be compared.
