Flash decisions from UKOME: Speed limits in Istanbul updated, Metrobuses to cross FSM Bridge
At the November UKOME meeting, speed limits were updated at 84 points across Istanbul, and approval was granted for Metrobuses to use the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge on special occasions.
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Transportation Coordination Center (UKOME) took two critical decisions concerning city traffic at its November meeting. During the meeting, proposals to re-regulate speed limits at 84 points and to allow Metrobuses to use the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge on certain days were unanimously approved.
SPEED LIMITS REDETERMINED AT 84 POINTS
It was announced at the UKOME meeting that speed limits would be updated across the city. Accordingly, new speed limits will be applied at a total of 84 points, 57 on the European Side and 27 on the Anatolian Side. Within the scope of the decision, 1,105 new traffic signs will be installed, while 14,655 old signs will be removed. The work is planned to be completed by December 31, 2025.
METROBUSES WILL BE ABLE TO CROSS FSM BRIDGE
The other important decision taken at the meeting concerned the Metrobus route. Accordingly, in cases where the 15 July Martyrs Bridge is closed to traffic due to sports events, celebrations, or memorial ceremonies, Metrobus services will continue via the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge.
According to the new route plan, Metrobuses traveling from the Anatolian Side to the European Side will connect to the ring road from Söğütlüçeşme and reach Zincirlikuyu via the FSM Bridge. Metrobuses returning from the European Side to the Anatolian Side will follow the same route in reverse to arrive at Söğütlüçeşme.
DECISIONS APPROVED UNANIMOUSLY
Both of UKOME's regulations were approved by the unanimous vote of the members and it was decided to put them into practice.
