Flash development in the new investigation: GPS device taken for examination

A flash development has occurred in a separate investigation involving Semih Kaya, who provided a statement as a complainant in the case where famous figures were defrauded, but was not included in the indictment. The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, which is continuing the investigation, requested the submission of the GPS device found in the suitcase carried by Semih Kaya, which had recently come to light. Ümit Karadağ, the lawyer for Atilla Baltaş—the first person to file a complaint against Seçil Erzan—went to the courthouse and handed over the much-discussed GPS device to the prosecutor's office. The records of that GPS device will now be examined.

Following the trial of the case in which famous figures such as Fernando Muslera, Arda Turan, Emre Belözoğlu, and Selçuk İnan were defrauded, it was revealed that a separate investigation had been opened. When the indictment for the multi-million dollar fraud case allegedly carried out by Seçil Erzan was released, it was observed that some of the complainants were not included in the investigation covered by the indictment. A flash development has occurred in the investigation launched into 11 people, including businessman Atilla Baltaş, who was the first to file a complaint against Seçil Erzan and bank executives, as well as former famous athletes like Semih Kaya and his manager Fırat Özdemir.

Here is the device that reached the prosecutor's office:

GPS RECORDS WILL BE EXAMINED

The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, which launched the investigation, requested that the GPS device found inside the suitcase full of money carried by Semih Kaya be brought and delivered to the prosecutor's office. Lawyer Ümit Karadağ, representing businessman Atilla Baltaş—who was revealed to be the owner of the suitcase full of money and the person who attached the GPS device—went to the courthouse and delivered the requested GPS device to the prosecutor conducting the investigation.

DETAILS EXPLAINED IN THE PETITION

While the GPS device, submitted with a complaint petition, was taken into processing for examination, the petition also included Lawyer Karadağ's explanation as to why his client, Atilla Baltaş, had attached a GPS to the suitcase. The statement read: "On November 7, 2022, a bag belonging to my client containing 7 thousand dollars, 5 thousand TL, and bank checks was stolen in Bakırköy. For this reason, it was searched for under the assumption that it might have been forgotten in another vehicle or workplace, but it could not be found. Therefore, due to my client being a businessman and the nature of his work, the money collected is transported to the bank or relevant places for payment in money bags. To avoid irreparable grievances, it was decided to attach a GPS device to the money bag and it began to be used routinely. In the incident in question, this was not a measure taken for a private individual or a bank manager."

WHAT WAS THE GPS DEVICE INCIDENT?

Semih Kaya, who received a suitcase full of money from Seçil Erzan, noticed that there was a GPS device in the suitcase while he was going to Bodrum. When Semih Kaya shared the situation with Seçil Erzan, it was revealed that the suitcase belonged to businessman Atilla Baltaş, who had brought money under the name of a private fund before Semih Kaya. After this incident, Atilla Baltaş, believing he had been defrauded, applied to the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office through his lawyer on April 7, 2023, and filed a complaint against Seçil Erzan and the bank executives. In his complaint petition, Baltaş stated that he could not recover the money he paid to Seçil Erzan and also included the incident regarding the GPS-equipped suitcase involving Semih Kaya.

MANAGER SEÇİL SAID 'KEEP THE BAG'

Semih Kaya, who gave a statement as a complainant within the scope of the investigation, explained the incident of finding a GPS in the bag he received from Seçil Erzan as follows: "Once, I had received money from Seçil Erzan that I knew was a 200 thousand dollar fund return. Manager Seçil had delivered this money to me in a blue bag in her office in Levent on November 15. Subsequently, I took the money out and deposited it into my account at the bank. I wanted to give the bag back to Seçil Erzan. I had gone to the teller with that bag while depositing the money. However, Manager Seçil said, 'Keep the bag.' I took the empty bag and put it in my vehicle. Subsequently, on November 16, I set off for the airport to go to Bodrum with my vehicle. I parked the vehicle at the airport. When I returned the same day and got into my vehicle, I heard a sound coming from this bag while I was driving. I got suspicious and when I checked the inside of the bag, I saw a GPS device. It had 'Apple' written on it and a serial number. When I entered the serial number into Google, I learned the last four digits of the phone. Subsequently, I went to Seçil's office in Levent and asked what this was about. Because when I saw there was a GPS in the bag, I was very scared. Because I thought they were following me."

'ATİLLA IS A NAIVE, PURE CHILD'

"When I went to see Seçil at the branch, Seçil told me that the GPS belonged to Atilla Baltaş, that Atilla was a very naive, pure person, that he was her ex-boyfriend, that they had broken up, but that Atilla was still having her followed, and that was why the GPS was in the bag. I said I would go to the police station and file a complaint. 10 minutes later, Atilla Baltaş came to Seçil's office. He told me that his bag had been stolen from his vehicle before and that it contained money, so he was worried about it being stolen again and had put a GPS device in the bag, and that this device belonged to him. I trusted his statements and handed over the bag containing the GPS device to Atilla Baltaş. Because of this incident, I am only filing a complaint against Seçil Erzan."
