Flight record of Halil Falyalı's 'treasurer' Cemil Önal leaked from police source

It has emerged that a POLNET screenshot containing information about the departure of Cemil Önal, known as the 'treasurer' of the murdered Halil Falyalı, to the Netherlands was leaked to the defense attorneys of the suspects by the police. 

According to İsmail Saymaz from Halk TV, the reasoned decision of the Istanbul 36th High Criminal Court revealed that a screenshot of Önal's flight record, taken from the POLNET system which only police personnel can access, was found on the phone of acquitted suspect Mehmet Faysal Söylemez.

In his defense, Mehmet Faysal Söylemez stated, “I do not remember whether Türkel sent the image containing flight information obtained from police sources.”

As a result of the investigation, it was determined that the image was provided to Türkel by a police officer; an investigation was launched into the relevant officer in 2022.

Barış Türkel was invited to the case as a witness but did not attend the hearing, citing “professional reasons.”

Barış Türkel's father, Ali Fuat Türkel, was the District Governor of Şişli at the time the incident occurred. Following the investigation, Ali Fuat Türkel, who was appointed as a legal advisor to the Bitlis Governorship by the then-Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu, was later appointed as the District Governor of Dörtyol by Ali Yerlikaya and retired in 2024.

While Halil Falyalı's wife, Özge Taşker Falyalı, argued that Önal was an “accomplice” to Mustafa Söylemez, who committed the murder, the Söylemez brothers claimed that Önal “colluded with another criminal organization to incite the murder” in order to seize Falyalı's fortune.
