Flood of visitors to Dolmabahçe Palace on Republic Day
As the October 29 Republic Day is celebrated with enthusiasm in every corner of the country, Dolmabahçe was not forgotten this year either. Domestic and foreign visitors formed queues stretching for meters in front of the palace to visit the room where Atatürk took his last breath.
The founding of the Republic is being celebrated with various events across the country on its 101st anniversary.
Citizens arriving from all over the country formed long queues at Dolmabahçe Palace to visit room number 71, where Mustafa Kemal Atatürk passed away.
VISITORS DESCRIBE THE FEELINGS OF BEING AT DOLMABAHÇE
Rabia Topal, who came from Germany, said, "I am very happy to be here. The fact that our second visit to Istanbul coincided with Republic Day made us even happier. I couldn't see much when I first came, but today I watched it to my heart's content. It is truly beautiful to be here on such a meaningful day. If you live abroad, you long for this. Seeing Istanbul is beautiful in its own right, but seeing your history here again is moving. Because we don't have these things in Germany."
According to the report by DHA, in addition to tourists from abroad, many visitors from within the country also flocked to the palace. Elif Aktaş, who came to Istanbul from Konya for Republic Day, said, "October 29 is a very important day for Republic Day, and we are emotional because we came to Dolmabahçe Palace. We need to protect this valuable legacy that Atatürk gifted us very well and we need to know its value. As a society, we need to move forward in an integrative, not divisive, way. I love the Republic very much, I love Atatürk very much, I love my country very much. I hope our country reaches much better places."
Aydın Özdemir, who came to Istanbul for the first time with his family from Kayseri, said, "I am coming to Istanbul for the first time. Celebrating the October 29 Republic Day here today was more meaningful for me. In this way, we also found the opportunity to visit and see Istanbul, one of the founding places of our civilization."
Citizens who wish to visit Dolmabahçe Palace, which has been opened to the public in all its sections as part of the 101st-anniversary celebrations of the Republic, can purchase their tickets at the entrance. The palace will remain open for visitors until 17:30.
