Following Amir-Abdollahian's death, his deputy Bagheri appointed acting Foreign Minister in Iran

The Iranian administration has taken action following their losses.

According to the official Iranian news agency IRNA, Government Spokesperson Ali Bahadori Jahromi made statements following an extraordinary meeting of the cabinet.

Jahromi stated that Bagheri, who has served as the Deputy for Political Affairs since 2021, has been appointed as the acting Foreign Minister to fill the vacancy left by the death of Amir-Abdollahian.

WHO IS ALI BAGHERI?

Bagheri was born in Tehran in 1967. He completed his undergraduate studies in Islamic sciences and economics at Imam Sadiq University in Tehran and taught economics at the same university.

After working briefly for Iranian state television, Bagheri began his career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the term of former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, he served on Iran's nuclear team between 2007 and 2013 and worked alongside Saeed Jalili in nuclear negotiations.

Bagheri served as the head of Saeed Jalili's campaign headquarters during the 2012 presidential elections and held the position of deputy to Jalili at the Supreme National Security Council.

In December 2019, he was appointed as the Deputy Head of the Judiciary for International Affairs and Human Rights by the decision of Ebrahim Raisi, who was serving as the Head of the Judiciary at the time.

On September 14, 2021, Bagheri was appointed as the Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs by the decision of Amir-Abdollahian.

Bagheri was also serving as the chief negotiator in Iran's nuclear talks.

HELICOPTER CRASH

President Raisi attended the opening ceremony of a dam on the Iran-Azerbaijan border yesterday. On his return, the helicopter carrying President Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and other officials crashed.

At Iran's request, Turkey deployed an Akıncı unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) for search and rescue operations. The coordinates of the helicopter wreckage identified by the Akıncı UAV were shared with Iranian authorities.

Iranian teams that reached the identified location confirmed that there were no survivors of the crash.
