Forensic Medicine Institute's decision on Murat Çalık

The Council of Forensic Medicine has decided that all check-ups and examinations must be repeated for Beylikdüzü Mayor Mehmet Murat Çalık, who has previously undergone cancer treatment twice and is experiencing health issues while in prison.

A decision was made to repeat all check-ups and examinations for Çalık, who has a history of two cancer treatments, underwent surgery for suspected lymphoma following his arrest, and also had an angiogram.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Çalık, who has previously received cancer treatment twice, fell ill again while in prison and was hospitalized. During the examinations, a bone marrow biopsy revealed a suspicion of lymphoma. Following this, Mayor Çalık underwent emergency surgery last month and was sent back to prison three days after the operation.

However, after his condition worsened again at Buca Kırıklar Prison, Çalık was hospitalized this time for an angiogram. Doctors assessed Mayor Çalık's health condition as "risky." Despite the seriousness of his health condition, Çalık was sent back to prison after the angiogram. While the process was ongoing, the Criminal Judgeship of Peace, which conducts monthly detention reviews, rejected Çalık's request for release and decided that his detention should continue.
