Forest fire in Buca reaches residential area: İzmir-Aydın highway closed

The fire occurred around 15:50 in the Zafer neighborhood of Buca district.

Citizens who saw flames rising in the wooded area for an as-yet-undetermined reason reported the situation to the 112 Emergency Call Center.

Upon the report, 3 aircraft, 3 helicopters, 16 fire trucks, 3 water supply vehicles, and 1 bulldozer belonging to the İzmir Regional Directorate of Forestry were dispatched to the region.

The teams' intervention against the flames continues from the air and on the ground.

The forest fire that broke out in the Kaynaklar district of Buca, İzmir, grew rapidly and began to threaten residential areas. While some citizens tried to prevent the approaching flames by spraying water with hoses, evacuation operations are ongoing.

The forest fire, which started around 15:50 in the Kaynaklar district of Buca, grew in a short time due to the effect of the wind and spread over a wide area. The fire progressed from the Zafer neighborhood to the Yıldızlar neighborhood. As the fire threatened residential areas, teams carried out evacuations while citizens tried to prevent the flames from spreading by watering their homes with hoses. The fire is being intervened in from both the air and the ground with 3 aircraft, 3 helicopters, and numerous fire trucks dispatched to the region. However, it was reported that the fire continues to progress towards the İzmir-Aydın Highway and the Kısık Industrial Site due to the wind.

While the extinguishing efforts carried out by the teams with great dedication continue uninterrupted, authorities called on citizens to be careful and to comply with warnings.

Mollaveisoğlu, who shared a video sent to him by Şükrü Durmuş, the founding president of the Agriculture and Forestry Union, described the situation as "very dire."
