Forest fire in Çanakkale again: 1 village evacuated

A fire broke out for an as-yet-undetermined reason in a forested area near the village of Çamköy in the Ayvacık district of Çanakkale.

As the flames spread over a wide area due to the effect of the wind, numerous teams were dispatched to the region upon notification.

Efforts by the teams to extinguish the fire are continuing from the air and on the ground.

Çanakkale Governor İlhami Aktaş conducted inspections at the fire site along with AFAD General Director of Earthquake and Risk Reduction Prof. Dr. Orhan Tatar, AFAD Head of Housing and Logistics Department Ayhan Işık, Ayvacık District Governor Dr. Salih Sak, Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Nazan Türkarslan, AFAD Çanakkale Provincial Director Mehmet Hayri Demirel, and other officials.

Stating that windy weather prevails in the city, Aktaş said, "Unfortunately, as is the case where we are right now, windy weather prevails in Çanakkale. With the increase in temperature alongside this windy weather, the number of our forest fires has unfortunately increased."

Emphasizing that all teams are continuing their struggle selflessly, Aktaş spoke as follows:

"While the fight against the fire in Ezine was continuing and cooling efforts had begun, a fire started in the Çamköy village of our Ayvacık district. The fire, which started in the village center, continued to progress toward the opposite side of the village. All our friends are currently in the field. Our forestry teams, AFAD teams, and our other public institutions and organizations are making the necessary interventions with all their equipment and personnel."

Stating that the village has been evacuated, Aktaş noted the following:

"Our village has 30 households; all our citizens have been evacuated. We will host them in the Ayvacık district center tonight. Our efforts to bring the fire under control are currently continuing. I hope it will be brought under control in the coming hours. So far, there is no negative situation regarding the fire. There is no loss of life or property. Our friends are continuing this struggle they have been carrying out for a few days in Çamköy tonight as well. Hopefully, we will share the news that it has been brought under control as soon as possible."
