The forest fire that broke out yesterday in the Ilgaz district of Çankırı has been brought under control.
The fire, which started in a forested area in Yukarımeydan village and led to the evacuation of homes in the villages of Yukarımeydan, Aşağımeydan, Aşağıdere, and Yukarıdere as a precaution, was tackled by Forestry Directorate fire trucks and firefighting teams from Çankırı and surrounding provinces.
COOLING EFFORTS CONTINUE
The fire, which stopped spreading as the wind lost its intensity, has been brought under control, and cooling efforts are ongoing.
It was determined that 44 hectares of forest land were damaged in the fire.
Çankırı Governor Mustafa Fırat Taşolar stated in a press briefing that the fire began around 17:30 yesterday.
Noting that the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, Taşolar reported that the fire was fought with 2 helicopters, 102 vehicles, and 267 personnel.
Explaining that there were no issues regarding the villages, Taşolar stated the following:
"We evacuated four villages as a precaution. There were no problems here. The comforting aspect for us is that there has been no loss of life or property so far. However, we evacuated these villages as a precaution due to the windy weather. Necessary measures were already taken by our District Governorship and Municipality for our 125 citizens in these 4 villages, and they have been accommodated. There are no issues regarding them. Our work continues. It would be misleading for me to say anything definitive about the cause of the fire right now. However, investigations and administrative and judicial inquiries will be conducted regarding this."
