Former advisor to Erdoğan defies reconciliation commission! Striking 'dirty bargain' remark

The National Solidarity, Brotherhood and Democracy Commission, established in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) as part of the new reconciliation process, has begun its work. The commission has met 3 times so far.

Prof. Dr. İzzet Özgenç, a criminal law expert and former legal advisor to AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, whose name was included on the list to 'contribute' to the reconciliation commission, has announced that he will not participate in the commission.

Özgenç stated the following regarding the matter:

"I have learned that my name has been included among those proposed to 'contribute' to the work of the commission, which has been established in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey in an unlawful manner for the purpose of fulfilling the 'requirements' of a bargain made indirectly, or even directly, with a terrorist organization."

Özgenç continued his statement as follows:

“As someone who believes that Turkey has a Kurdish issue and that this issue should be resolved on the basis of law, I hereby inform the public that I will not be a part of this dirty bargain due to the incorrectness of the method being followed.”
