Former AKP chair detained in fake diploma scandal

A wide-ranging operation is underway targeting an organized network that produced fake diplomas and driver's licenses using the e-signatures of public officials. As part of the investigation, former AKP Bodrum District Chair Osman Gökmen was also detained and taken to Ankara.

In the investigation coordinated by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was determined that the e-signature system was used illegally to prepare the forged documents. Detention warrants were issued for 125 people in an operation carried out simultaneously across 22 provinces centered in Ankara; it was reported that 92 suspects have been apprehended so far.

OPERATION EXPANDS IN BODRUM

According to a report by Yaşar Anter from Sözcü, it was learned that two people were detained in the Bodrum leg of the operation. Among those detained is the former AKP Bodrum District Chair, Osman Gökmen.

It was reported that Gökmen was transferred to Ankara for questioning.

Authorities emphasized that the investigation is continuing in multiple directions and that irregularities in the digital signature systems of public institutions are being meticulously examined.
