Confession from former AKP deputy Kenan Sofuoğlu years later! 'It was the biggest mistake of my life'

Former world champion motorcycle racer Kenan Sofuoğlu, who was elected as an AKP deputy for Sakarya on June 24, 2018, was a guest on Fatih Altaylı’s YouTube program.

Admitting that he felt regret just one week after becoming a deputy, Sofuoğlu said he tried every way possible to resign.

Sofuoğlu commented on his 5-year term as a deputy, calling it "the biggest mistake of my life."

Stating that he took a break from racing after a meeting with AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Sofuoğlu complained about the intense demands from the party after his name was added to the list of parliamentary candidates and added the following:

"I called one of his advisors and said, 'Where is the President's schedule? I will go there immediately. I won't do this job, I can't do it, brother. Take me off your list.' I was devastated in 3 weeks by the demands, requests, expectations, and the party telling me 'go here, go there.' It was the peak of my career, I was making crazy money. He made me quit racing; I was going to live a comfortable life, I said 'what is this, brother?' He dissuaded me, saying, 'You absolutely cannot do such a thing, we trusted you, they will make very bad publicity, they will use this,' and so on."

In response to Altaylı's question, "You won't do it (parliamentary service) again, right?", Sofuoğlu replied with the words: "No brother, one of the biggest mistakes in my life was saying 'I will do it' to the President there. But if I had known a little bit about what being a deputy was like... It is the biggest mistake of my life."
