Former AKP deputy passes away

Ahmet İyimaya will be laid to rest in Ankara on Friday, January 10, following the noon prayer.

WHO IS Ahmet İyimaya?

Ahmet İyimaya was born on November 22, 1950, in the village of Yuvaköy in Amasya. He graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Law with first-class honors.

In later years, İyimaya worked as a freelance lawyer in the Ankara Bar Association for many years and served as a member of the Scientific Board of the Turkish Law Association and the founding advisory board of the TEMA Foundation.

Having authored books and articles in the fields of responsibility and political law, İyimaya received the "Lawyer of the Year" award from the Turkish-British Jurists Association in London in 2010.

CONDOLENCE MESSAGES FROM PRESIDENT ERDOĞAN AND AKP FIGURES

Following the passing of former AKP deputy Ahmet İyimaya, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan issued a message of condolence. In his post, President Erdoğan stated, "I learned with great sadness of the passing of our esteemed fellow traveler and former deputy, Ahmet İyimaya, with whom we walked together for many years under the roof of our AK Party in the service of our nation and who provided significant services to our country through the duties he undertook. I pray for God's mercy upon the late Ahmet İyimaya; I extend my condolences to his family, his loved ones, the deputies with whom he served in our Parliament, and our AK Party organization. May God grant him a place in heaven."

Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz said, "We learned with deep sadness of the passing of our elder Ahmet İyimaya, who contributed greatly to our party, served as a deputy for Amasya and Ankara, and successfully chaired the Justice and Constitutional Commissions of the TBMM; he was an exemplary politician and legal expert. Ahmet İyimaya was an elder who set an example for all of us with his kindness and wisdom. He served our nation worthily both with his political struggle and his knowledge in the field of law. May God have mercy on him. May his place be heaven and his rank be high. I extend my condolences and patience to his family, his loved ones, our organization, and our nation."

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu said, "I learned with deep sorrow of the passing of our elder Ahmet İyimaya, a valuable politician who served as a deputy for Amasya and Ankara in previous terms. I pray for God's mercy upon him and extend my condolences to his precious family and loved ones. May his place be heaven and his rank be high."

In a post shared by Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç, it was stated, "We are in deep sorrow over the loss of Mr. Ahmet İyimaya, one of the pillars of our legal world, who left a mark on all of our hearts with his wisdom, guidance, and humility, and with whom I was honored to work during his chairmanship of the TBMM Justice Commission. The late İyimaya was a respectable jurist and a valuable personality who will always be taken as an example with his profound ideas and strong sense of justice. His passing is a deep loss not only for his family and loved ones but also for our nation and our legal community. I pray for God's mercy upon our precious elder and extend my patience and condolences to his grieving family and all his loved ones. May his place be heaven and his rank be high."
