Former Chief of General Staff İlker Başbuğ: I have known Hasan Akgün for 35 years, I have always witnessed his patriotism
Following the arrest of Büyükçekmece Mayor Hasan Akgün, former Chief of General Staff İlker Başbuğ issued a statement noting that he has known him for 35 years, stating, 'I have always witnessed his patriotism and his love for the Republic.'
As part of a "corruption" investigation conducted at the Büyükçekmece Municipality, Mayor Hasan Akgün was arrested on June 3. Akgün denied the prosecutor's allegations, stating, "I wish one of them had been true."
Following Akgün's arrest, İlker Başbuğ shared the following words in a post on social media:
"I have known the Mayor of Büyükçekmece since my days as brigade commander in Hadımköy. Over the 35 years that have passed since then, I have always witnessed Mr. Hasan Akgün's patriotism and his love for the Republic. I celebrate our Eid al-Adha, which reminds us of the importance of brotherhood, friendship, and solidarity, with these feelings and thoughts."
