Former CHP deputy Atila Sertel detained

Former Republican People's Party (CHP) İzmir Deputy Atila Sertel announced that he was being taken to the İzmir Courthouse under police escort.

In a post regarding the reason for his detention, Sertel stated, "A detention order was issued on the grounds that I did not provide a statement in one of the lawsuits filed by former rector Fatma Seniha Nükhet Hotar."

"WE WILL PROVIDE A STATEMENT WITH THE POLICE OFFICERS"

Stating in a post on his social media account that he was detained due to a lawsuit related to his time as a deputy, Sertel included the following remarks:

"The reason for the detention order has emerged. A detention order was issued on the grounds that I did not provide a statement in one of the lawsuits filed by former rector Fatma Seniha Nükhet Hotar, who did not provide information or documents regarding corruption to the Court of Accounts during my time as a deputy, who persecuted faculty members at the time, and who politicized the university. We will go to the İzmir Courthouse with our police officers and provide a statement. Throughout my life, I have always spoken the truth; I have never knowingly or intentionally insulted anyone. The former rector spends most of her life in courthouse corridors. She wants us to be the same."

"I GAVE MY STATEMENT, I AM RETURNING HOME"

In a subsequent post, Sertel shared a photo from the courthouse and added the note, "I gave my statement to the Criminal Court of First Instance judge, there is no problem. I am returning home."
