Yıldırım, who succumbed to his illness, passed away at the age of 75.
During his tenure as a member of parliament, Mehmet Yıldırım was known as the 'Garlic MP' for his efforts to bring Taşköprü garlic and local products from Kastamonu to the national agenda in Turkey to support producers.
It was stated that Yıldırım had been battling cancer for 2 years.
