The former HDP Marmaris district chair has been arrested on allegations of collecting funds for a terrorist organization.
A suspect, who is under investigation by the Suruç Chief Public Prosecutor's Office for membership in an armed terrorist organization, stated that they visited the HDP Marmaris district office in 2015 and, under the direction of A.İ., who was the district chair at the time, traveled from Marmaris to the Suruç district of Şanlıurfa, from where they crossed illegally into the Ayn al-Arab (Kobani) region of Syria to join the terrorist organization.
In their statement, the suspect alleged that "A.İ. collected money from individuals sympathetic to the organization in Muğla in 2015 under the guise of a so-called 'tax' to provide financing."
Following the suspect's allegations, security units conducted an investigation into A.İ. as part of the probe launched by the Marmaris Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and reviewed a report prepared by the Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK).
