Former Kırkpınar Ağa reports himself to police after realizing he ran a red light
Mustafa Altunhan, a former Kırkpınar Ağa, reported himself to the police after realizing he had run a red light following comments made on a video he shared on social media. Police teams reviewed the footage and issued a fine to Altunhan.
While Mustafa Altunhan was on his way to the Trakya University Faculty of Medicine Hospital for check-ups related to a heart condition, a person accompanying him recorded the moments he was providing information about his illness and the hospital on a mobile phone camera.
After his check-up, Altunhan shared this video on his social media account.
Realizing that he had run a red light based on the comments made after the post, Altunhan called 112 and reported himself.
MOBESE (CCTV) footage was reviewed by police teams, who confirmed the violation and issued a 1,506 lira fine to Altunhan. Altunhan also shared the video of himself reporting the incident on his social media account, stating that he was embarrassed by his mistake.
Altunhan told an AA reporter that he reported himself to make up for his error.
Stating that as someone who has served as a Kırkpınar Ağa and held various administrative positions in Edirne, he wants to set a good example for everyone, Altunhan said, "I was saddened and embarrassed when I saw the comment. I immediately called 112 and connected to traffic control. I said, 'I made a mistake, I ran a red light. Please issue me a fine for this.' No crime should go unpunished, and it must not. We have matured and reached certain positions. I did this to set an example for our children and grandchildren."
