Former Minister of Labor and Social Security Yaşar Okuyan has been hospitalized. Okuyan's daughter, Ülkü Okuyan, announced in a statement that her father's condition is critical.

Okuyan's daughter, Ülkü Okuyan, stated: "My father, Yaşar Okuyan, was taken to the intensive care unit and intubated after undergoing an intervention following an internal hemorrhage yesterday morning at Başkent University Hospital, where he was receiving treatment. Unfortunately, his condition is critical, and we will share updates regarding his health as they develop."

WHO IS YAŞAR OKUYAN?

Yaşar Okuyan was born on August 28, 1950, in Istanbul. He is originally from Rize. He graduated from the Istanbul Private School of Journalism. For 21 years, he worked as a reporter, photojournalist, columnist, and intelligence director for various newspapers, magazines, and agencies.

He began his active political career in the early 1970s with the MHP. Following the military coup on September 12, 1980, he was tried as the Deputy Secretary General of the MHP in the MHP and Nationalist Organizations Case. After Mesut Yılmaz was elected leader of the ANAP, Yaşar Okuyan entered Parliament from this party. He was elected as a deputy for Yalova in the 20th and 21st terms. After resigning from ANAP, he joined his former party, the MHP, in 2002. Later, he left the MHP as well and became the Yalova mayoral candidate for the True Path Party (DYP) in the March 28 elections, but was not elected. In 2008, he closed the Freedom and Change Party (HDP), of which he was the chairman, and joined the People's Rise Party (HYP) along with his staff.

On February 15, 2015, he was appointed as the deputy chairman of the Vatan Party. He left his post in 2018. In the same year, he became a member of the CHP. Following his remarks targeting IYI Party Chair Meral Akşener, he was expelled from the CHP on February 22, 2023.

Yaşar Okuyan, who married Özlem Kaya in 2012, has 3 daughters.
