Former Zonguldak Mayor İsmail Eşref arrested
İsmail Eşref, who served three terms as the Mayor of Zonguldak, has been arrested following a prison sentence handed down due to the roof collapse at the Soğuksu public market in 2012. Eşref was sent to Beycuma Prison.
İsmail Eşref, who served three terms as the Mayor of Zonguldak representing the Democratic Left Party and the Republican People's Party, has been arrested.
In 2012, the roof of the Soğuksu public market in the Zonguldak city center collapsed due to heavy snowfall, resulting in the deaths of 2 people. Following the incident, 7 individuals, including 3 former mayors, were tried at the Zonguldak 1st High Criminal Court for causing death by negligence.
At the conclusion of the trial, Eşref was sentenced to 6 years and 8 months in prison and was arrested last Sunday and sent to Beycuma Prison.
