A 75-year-old retired woman named F.O.M., residing in Bakırköy, received a phone call from an individual.
The caller first introduced himself as a police officer. He told the elderly woman that an investigation had been launched against her regarding a terrorist organization and that the money in her possession needed to be seized to ensure it was safe.
The fraudster convinced the elderly woman to hand over the money to a person who would come to her home. On the same day, the elderly woman handed over cash and jewelry worth 4 million liras to a person who arrived at her house.
CAUGHT IN A TRAP AFTER CALLING A SECOND TIME
The same fraudster called the elderly woman again a day later, this time demanding that the cash in her bank account also be handed over. Suspicious of the situation, the elderly woman hung up the phone and called the police. The Public Security Branch Office Fraud Bureau teams stepped in.
The police told the elderly woman to continue the fraudster's game and pretend she would hand over the money. Meanwhile, Fraud Bureau teams began waiting around the house. The suspect, 22-year-old İlkcan Tayfun K., who arrived to collect the money, was taken into custody. The suspect was referred to the courthouse after his procedures at the police station. The suspect, who tried to trap the elderly woman a second time, was arrested. The police investigation into the incident is ongoing.
