During a grave excavation in the Buca district of İzmir, bones placed in a black bag were discovered alongside the original remains. The investigation revealed that the bones belonged to an adult woman and a man.

The incident occurred on October 15 at the Old Buca Cemetery.

It was decided that the funeral of Elif Küntaş (32), who died of lung cancer, would be buried on top of the grave of her grandfather, Nurettin Küntaş, who passed away in 1979.

While the grave was being opened for the burial, bones were found inside a bag within Nurettin Küntaş's grave.

Teams from the Crime Scene Investigation Branch conducted an examination following the report.

The bones were subsequently sent to the Istanbul Council of Forensic Medicine for DNA testing and identification.

The expected report from the Council of Forensic Medicine has arrived. According to the report, it was determined that the remains belonged to an adult woman and a man.

DNA comparisons were also made against missing persons records. It was learned that the bones found did not match any missing persons.

"NO FINDINGS DETECTED IN THE BONES THAT COULD EXPLAIN THE CAUSES OF DEATH"

The results obtained in light of the information and findings from the examination and analysis conducted at the Bone and External Examination Branch of the Istanbul Council of Forensic Medicine Morgue Specialization Department are as follows:

"It was confirmed that the existing bones belong to at least 2 different adult individuals, one male and one female. While the morphological changes detected in the bones vary depending on several factors such as the method of burial, animal interference, and environmental conditions, it was determined, without knowing the characteristics of the scene, that considering findings such as weight, density loss, fragility, and post-mortem wear, the bones could belong to individuals who died 2 years or more ago, although this is not definitive. In the examination conducted by the Chemistry Specialization Department on the soil samples sent, it was stated that no toxic substances were found. Finally, it was noted that no traumatic or pathological findings that could explain the causes of death were detected in the existing bones."

The police are continuing their work regarding the incident.
