Frightening fire in Kocaeli: A handkerchief left on a heater almost caused a family tragedy!
In the Gebze district of Kocaeli, a fire broke out on the first floor of a 4-story apartment building after a handkerchief left on an electric heater caught fire. The incident, which occurred during the night, caused panic among the residents.
While the fire was extinguished by the intervention of the fire department, 2 people, including 1 baby, were affected by smoke.
In Kocaeli, Hilmi İ. (67), who lives alone on the first floor of a 4-story apartment building on 1203rd Street in the Osman Yılmaz neighborhood, left a handkerchief he had washed on an electric heater to dry.

As Hilmi İ. fell asleep after a while, the handkerchief on the heater caught fire around 01:30 at night. As flames and smoke rose from the house, apartment residents went out into the street and reported the incident.

Upon the report, fire, health, and police teams were dispatched to the address. The fire was extinguished by the fire department before it could spread.
Hilmi İ., who was affected by the smoke, and 1 baby living on the floor above were taken to Gebze Fatih State Hospital after initial intervention by medical teams in the ambulance.
The police have launched an investigation into the fire.
